Prince Fielder signed a nine year deal worth $214 million with the Detroit Tigers; the team his father played for during a large portion of his Major League career. With the addition of Fielder the Tigers will now have to move Miguel Cabrera to 3B, a position that he hasn't played in quite some time. Look for Fielder to have a monster season, even though Comerica Park is known as a pitcher's haven.
Today is Pi Day as it is 3/14, which is the first 3 digits of the number Pi. In that honor here is a video from an episode of Family Guy where Peter sings a song about his love for pie. ENJOY!
The Boston Red Sox avoided arbitration with David Ortiz by signing him to a one year deal. Ortiz has been a big part of the Red Sox recent good play. Ortiz has 387 career HRs and has averaged 35.5 HRs per season that Ortiz has been a member of Soxnation (since 2003). Bringing back Ortiz was a good move for Boston as he is an excellent team leader and Jason Varitek retired.
The Arizona Diamondbacks signed Jason Kubel to a 2 year deal with an option for a 3rd year. Kubel had a career year in 2009 when he batted .300 with 28 HRs and 103 RBIs. In 2010 his numbers dipped a little bit and in 2011 Kubel suffered through some injuries. Kubel should help bring a solid left-handed hitting bat to a team with many RH batters.
