- Herb Brooks coached Team USA to the "Miracle On Ice" gold in 1980 and a silver in the 2002 Olympics. In the 5 Olympics between, the Americans did not win any medals.
- Two movies were made of the 1980 Olympic team. In 1981s "Miracle On Ice" Karl Malden portrayed Herb Brooks and in 2004s "Miracle" Kurt Russell played the legendary coach.
