This Day in Sports History - 10/14/2002

Before a national television audience on Monday night, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Terrell Owens demonstrated a novel way to celebrate a touchdown during a 28 - 21 win over the Seahawks in Seattle. With the Seahawks leading 21 - 20 and 7:46 remaining, Owens scores on a 37-yard touchdown pass, pulls a Sharpie from his sock, autographs a football, and hands it to a fan.

This Day in Sports History - 4/2/2001

The Seattle Mariners open the season with a 5 - 4 win over the Oakland Athletics at Safeco Field. They'll go on to post a record of 116 - 46, tying the mark for most regular season wins established by the 1906 Cubs who were 116 - 36. The Mariners won't reach the World Series, however; they;ll lose the ALCS to the New York Yankees, four games to one.

Adam Kennedy

The Seattle Mariners signed 2B Adam Kennedy this off-season. Kennedy is 35 years old and has seen his numbers decline. He was a member of the 2002 Anaheim Angels who won the World Series. Kennedy joins a team that has veterans like Ichiro, Chone Figgins and Jack Wilson as well as youngsters like Franklin Gutierrez and Dustin Ackley. Kennedy may be a bench player for this team; but he should help bring some professionalism and a winning attitude to a team that desperately needs it.
